This project was created for a competition set by the RSA and sponsored by Fazer. The brief was titled ‘Waste Not, Want Not’: design a way to encourage and support individuals, households, businesses and/or communities to reduce food waste.
After researching the topic of food waste I discovered that there is a lack of education or understanding when it comes to food labelling i.e. use by and best before dates. I decided to approach this issue and aim my work at a young audience with the purpose to educate and make the subject fun yet engaging.
I decided to create a sticker challenge and campaign titled ‘Face The Food’ which would take place on the 7th Jan 2017 where adults and children use the stickers as a method to learn about food labelling. I illustrated fun characters from hand using paint and collage materials. To go along with the stickers I designed a booklet that explains the challenge and also teaches children about common wasted food groups. The booklet is paired with the stickers in a plastic sleeve and would be given out at the checkouts in Waitrose stores across the country. The sticker sheets are separated into food groups and colour coded into use by or best before dates.
